DHAKA, Nov 27, 2024 (BSS) - The ongoing anti-polythene campaign has seized 38,178 kg of polythene so far.

During November 3 and 26, 2024, a total of 162 mobile court drives were conducted across the country and fined 336 business entities Taka 19,16,300.

Additionally, about 38,178 kilograms of polythene were seized, a ministry press release said.

As per the declaration by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the nationwide crackdown on banned polythene is underway. 

In Dhaka, 13 mobile courts led by Department of Environment (DoE) Executive Magistrates Kazi Tamjid Ahmed, Sultana Saleha Sumi, and Fayzunnesa Akter conducted drives against illegal polythene production and distribution.

The drives penalised 27 establishments with fines amounting to Taka 86,500 and seized around 3,980 kilograms of polythene.

The DoE has pledged to continue such operations regularly to check pollution caused by banned polythene.
