Court acquits BNP leader Mir Sarafat Ali from subversive act case 

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2024(BSS) - A Special Judge Court here today acquitted BNP central leader Mir Sarafat Ali from a case filed under subversive act with city’s New Market police station.

Md Ali Ahsan, Judge of the Special Court no-9 acquitted BNP’s Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali after hearing an appeal submitted by the lawyer of the accused.

Ataullah, Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka on November 20, 2023 sentenced Sarafat Ali to one- and-a-half years in prison in a case filed under various sections of subversive act. Sarafat Ali filed an appeal against the judgment with the Special Judge Court-9.

According to the case, Khalilur Rahman, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of New Market police station filed a case against 13 leaders and workers of BNP on January 29, 2015 for their alleged involvement in creating panic near New Market gate number-4 by exploding explosives. 

Police on July 21 in 2014 submitted charge sheet accusing 14 leaders and workers of BNP including BNP Joint Secretary General Habibunnanbi Khan Sohel, Mir Sarafat Ali and Azizul Bari Helal. 

The court on March 15, 2021 framed charges against the 14 BNP leaders taking the allegations into considerations.
