RANGPUR, Nov 28, 2024 (BSS) – Leaders of different religions and political background today said that Bangladesh had become a global model for communal harmony although an evil group is spreading rumors to destroy this harmony.
They expressed the opinion at the view exchange meeting organized by the district police with Superintendent of Police, Rangpur Mohammad Sharif Uddin in the chair. Leaders of different religions and political background attended the meeting, among others.
Emphasizing the importance on maintaining communal harmony, they urged all belonging to different religious beliefs not to involve in any conflicts due to provocation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam, Sanaton community leaders- Uttam Kumar Saha and Babu Ram Jiban Kundu, Khatib of Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque Moulana Mohammad Bayezid Ahmed and leaders of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikko Parishad, political organizations, representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement addressed the meeting, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sanaton community leaders said that arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was expelled from ISKCON long ago. But they don’t know how they came to Rangpur and held a rally.
They said whoever killed the lawyer in Chattogram must be brought to justice. But, they believed that there would be no atrocities on innocent Hindus.
The peaceful coexistence of the Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists in Bangladesh has become a model in the whole world, they said. But, a group is trying to destroy this harmony, they added.
The Superintendent of Police said that a vested interest group is spreading rumors on social media to destroy religious harmony exist in the country.
“We must be careful not to get involved in conflicts due to someone's provocation. Bangladesh is for everyone, the laws of the country are the same for all. Police will definitely maintain communal harmony in Rangpur,” he said.
