Labour Reform Commission to send recommendations to govt for labour security

DHAKA, Nov 28, 2024 (BSS) – Labour Reform Commission head Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed today said that his commission will prepare and submit a set of recommendations to the government aiming to establish social justice and ensure fundamental rights for the country’s around eight crore labor force.

“A report on labor sector reforms, including proposals for amending the labor law, will be submitted within the next 90 days. An action plan has been adopted for this purpose," he told journalists after emerging from the maiden meeting of Labour Reform Commission at Sram Bhaban in city's Bijaynagar area.

During the meeting, the commission members stated that the commission will formulate necessary recommendations focusing on formation of national minimum wage structure, democratic labor laws, decent and dignified employment, job security, safe working environment, universal social security, the right to organize and bargain, the right to freely form trade unions and the practice of responsible trade unions and business organizations.

He hoped that these recommendations will help establish decent work and social justice for the working people.

Other members of the commission including Mahfuzul Haque, former secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Jakir Hossain, professor at the Institute of Bangladesh Studies at Rajshahi University, Tapan Dutta, president of the Chattogram divisional committee of the Bangladesh Trade Union Centre, AKM Nasim, former president of Bangladesh Labour Court Bar Association, M Kamran T Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation and Taslima Akhter, photographer and labour movement organiser were also present on the occasion.
