DHAKA, Nov 29, 2024 (BSS) - Five leaders of Mohila Awami League (AL) arrested from the city's Pallabi area on Thursday evening in connection with an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in Pallabi, police said.
The arrestees have been identified as 6 No ward Awami Mohila League leader Babli Begum (43), 2 No Ward General Secretary Sabina Yasmin Juthi (38), 3 No Ward Organizing Secretary Rita Akhter (40), 4 No Ward Vice-President Nazma Akhter Sathi (30) and 5 No Ward Co-Organizing Secretary Khadija Begum (34).
They were arrested when police conducted a raid in Pallabi Thana area around 11:40 pm on Thursday, said a police press release.
Police arrested them by analysing CCTV footage, intelligence information and using technology.
Police said that one Abid joined the student-people movement in front of Popular-2 Diagnostic Center at Mirpur-10 under Pallabi Police Station on August 4 last.
Leaders and activists of of Awami League and its affiliated organizations attacked the protesters with locally-made weapons, pistols and other firearms.
At that time, Abid was seriously injured when a bullet hit his right eye. Later, he was taken to the National Ophthalmology Institute and Hospital for treatment.
Victim Abid's brother Jinnat Sayedee filed a case with Pallabi Police Station on November 12, 2024 in this connection.
