RANGPUR, Nov 30, 2024 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali today said there is no alternative to sports in building a drug-free healthy life.
"Those who play sports regularly have good minds and bodies. And those who have good bodies with sound health and minds do not take drugs," he said.
The Vice-chancellor said this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the weeklong 'Shaheed Abu Sayeed Inter-Departmental Football Tournament 2024' organized at the university's football field as the chief guest.
On this occasion, Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain formally inaugurated the tournament by releasing balloons in a grand ceremony organized at the university's football field.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Director of the Office of The Physical Education Dr Md Siddiqur Rahman.
Proctor of the University Dr Md Ferdous Rahman and Director of the Office of the Student Affairs Dr Md Ileas Pramanik, among others, addressed the function.
Later, Assistant Proctor of the University Md Abdullah-Al Mahbub administered the oath to the players.
The Vice-chancellor said adequate steps are being taken to keep this university 100 percent drug-free. In the university, all types of sports will continue and a complex will be built for sports.
"If everyone's cooperation continues, this university will make a special contribution in the field of sports and culture as well as education," he said.
Professor Showkat called upon everyone to leave negative views and give positive advice for the development of the university.
Twenty-two male teams with one from each of all 22 departments of the university and eight separate female teams are participating in the inter-departmental football tournament.
On the opening day of the tournament, two teams of girls from the Bengali and History departments participated in the only match today.
