Ex-MP Safia Khatun arrested

DHAKA, Dec 01, 2024 (BSS)- Pallabi thana police arrested Safia Khatun, a former Member of Parliament (MP) in the reserved seats for women from Chakaria-Pekua Upazila of Cox's Bazar).

Safia, also a former central president of the Mohila Awami League was arrested last night from Balughat area of pallabi thana in connection with Akram Khan Rabbi murder during the anti-discrimination student movement in Pallabi, police said.

Police said they arrested Safia as her involvement with the murder was found in the CCTV footage apart from intelligence report.

Akram Khan Rabbi was killed on July 19 last when he was crossing the road in front of Mirpur-10 during a protest rally in support of the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
It was alleged that leaders and activists of various Awami League affiliated organization opened fire on the protesters, injuring many of them including Rabbi.

Doctors of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) declared him dead as he was taken to the hospital.

Akram's father Faruk Khan filed a murder case in this connection was filed with Pallabi thana police on August 25, 2024.
