BNP’s countrywide jubilant processions on Tarique’s acquittal

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2024 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today brought out jubilant processions across the country including the capital Dhaka celebrating the acquittal of party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from the cases filed over August 21 grenade attack.     

A massive procession was brought out from the party’s Nayapaltan central office led by the BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed.

Thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies joined the procession started from Nayapaltan and went around Night Angle intersection before returning to Nayapaltan.

BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu, Dhaka City South unit convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna, General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan, Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Organizing Secretary Aman Ullah Aman, Jubo Dal's Kamruzzaman Jewel, Enamul Haque Enam, Sharif Uddin Jewel, Rabiul Islam Nayan, Mehbub Masum Shanto, Sajjadul Miraj, Selina Sultana Nishita, Arifa Sultana Ruma, Sanchita Urmi were present on the occasion.

Sweets were also distributed in celebrating the acquittal of Tarique Rahman.

Identical processions were also brought out in divisional cities and in different places of all 64 districts including Bogura, Tangail, Chattogram, Kushtia and Jessore celebrating the acquittal of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from the cases filed over August 21 grenade attack.      

BNP leaders of different districts said processions will also be brought out tomorrow in some places across the country.

Talking to BSS, Kusthia BNP Member Secretary Jakir Sarker said, “We are optimistic that our beloved leader Tarique Rahman, the heart of the people, will return home soon as he got acquitted in the grenade attack case”.

The High Court (HC) today acquitted all persons including Tarique Rahman who were convicted by the lower court in two cases- one on murder and other on explosives substances- filed over the grenade attack on an Awami League rally in the capital's Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004.

A High Court division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain gave the verdict, scrapping the lower court judgment in the two cases.
