ICT shows two ex-cops arrested in enforced disappearance cases

DHAKA, Dec 02, 2024 (BSS) -The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today for the first time showed two former law enforcement officials arrested in separate cases filed over enforced disappearances.

The two arrestees are former company commander of RAB-2 SP Mohiuddin Farooqui and former additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Barisal Range Alep Uddin.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order in presence of the two accused. The court also set February 20 for submitting report of progress in probing the cases.

"We have received many allegations over detention, torture and enforced disappearance so far. After scrutinizing those allegations, we have found two specific allegations against these two as coincidentally the blindfolds of the victims slipped away a bit, exposing the faces of these two accused," prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman told BSS.

The prosecution earlier pleaded to show Farooqui arrested under ICT BD miscellaneous case 06/2024 and Alep under ICT BD miscellaneous case 07/2024.

Former deputy commandant Betbunia Police Specialized Training Centre superintendant of police (SP) Mohiuddin Farooqui was arrested from Rangamati and ASP Alep Uddin from Barisal on November 13.
