DHAKA, Dec 02, 2024 (BSS)- July Shaheed Smriti Foundation has so far distributed over Taka 26 crore among 1,140 families of victims of the student-people uprising.
The information was revealed at the third central executive council meeting of July Shaheed Smriti Foundation held at the State Guest House Jamuna here tonight.
Presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the meeting was attended, among others, by Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid, July Shaheed Smriti Foundation Chief Executive Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha and its General Secretary Sarjis Alam.
It was informed in the meeting that Taka 107.75 crore has been deposited in the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation fund as of November 30, 2024.
Of the amount, Taka 18.25 crore has been provided for the families of 365 martyrs and about 7.86 crore to the 775 injured.
A total of Taka 26,11,70,190 has been distributed among the families of 1,140 victims through bkash, said a press release issued by the chief adviser press wing tonight.
In the meeting, the progress of the implementation of the decisions of the second meeting was reviewed, while the activities of the special cell related to the mass uprising and the foundation, the formation of a medical support team, ICT support team, and legal support team to help seriously ill patients were discussed.
In addition, the meeting approved the revised constitution of the foundation, the formation of the executive council, and the income and expenditure account.
On behalf of the foundation, a medical support team has been formed for critically injured patients with former director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Dr Md Jalal Uddin as its chief.
While presenting a special presentation on the needs to ensure treatment for the injured, he said so far, nine of the injured in the July uprising have been sent abroad for better treatment.
Of them, 6 have been sent to Thailand and 3 to Singapore. And two more will go abroad for treatment in a few days, Jalal said.
In addition, the process of sending 7 more injured people to Turkey for better treatment is underway, he said.
He also said so far, several special medical teams have come from abroad for treatment of the injured persons.
