DHAKA, Dec 03, 2024 (BSS) – A total of 10 students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded Prof Sitara Parvin Award-2024 for their outstanding performances in BSS (Hons.) examination in 2022.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan distributed the award among the recipients as the chief guest at a function held at Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university today.
The recipients of the award are- Farah Zaman Shuchy, Usama Rafid, Tahseen Nower Prachi, Md. Rafij Khan, Hossain Azmal Pranto, Mahedi Hasan, Md. Tanjir Hossain, Nigar Sultana, Mehnaz Lameesha Rahman and Nahida Sultana Sayma.
Chaired by Social Sciences faculty dean and Acting Chairperson of the Mass Communication and Journalism department Prof. Rasheda Irshad Nasir, the function was addressed by Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman as special guest.
Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali gave vote of thanks while Associate Professor Dr. Saiful Hoque conducted the programme.
Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan in his speech paid glowing tributes to the memory of Prof. Dr. Sitara Parvin and said, "She was an honest, sincere and devoted teacher and researcher of the university".
Such a scholarship will inspire the students to study and equip themselves with knowledge, moral and humanitarian values, he said.
The VC called upon the students to play a pivotal role in building new Bangladesh by making themselves as worthy citizens.
Prof. Dr. Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and wife of retired Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali of DU Mass Communication and Journalism department died in a tragic road accident on June 23, 2005 in USA.
