DHAKA, Dec 3, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who is now in London, has strongly condemned the attack on Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India.
"The attack on Bangladesh's assistant high commission in Agartala by members of an organization called 'Hindu Sangharsh Samity' is believed to have been pre-planned," he said in a statement issued today.
BNP Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu sent the statement to the media.
The senior BNP leader said that bringing down the national flag of Bangladesh, setting it on fire and vandalizing the office of the assistant high commission after entering it, is a clear violation of the Geneva Convention.
Fakhrul opined that using hatred in Bangladesh -- as a tactic for Indian internal politics -- will create a long-term tension in the relations between the two neighboring countries.
He requested the Indian government and its people to look into the matter.
"We hope that the Indians will respect the democratic aspirations of the citizens of the new Bangladesh and help in the trial of the leaders of the previous fascist Awami League regime, who are in India, by returning them," he said.
