DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today showed former officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan arrested in a case lodged over the brutal killing of college student Imam Hasan Taim during student-led July August mass uprising.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution.
"The tribunal showed him arrested in ICT-BD miscellaneous case 05/2024. He is the first accused, who has been showed arrested in two cases filed with the tribunal," Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman told BSS.
Taim, a second-year student at Adamji Nagar Government College in Narayanganj, was shot from a close range on July 20 near the Kajla foot over bridge. Policemen took Taim, who was still alive, to Jatrabari Police Station and confirmed his death by torturing and disfiguring his face there, prosecution sources said.
Earlier on November 20, the ICT showed Abul along with seven other former security officials arrested in a case lodged over murder, genocide, and crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising.
The other seven arrestees are- former director general(DG) of NTMC sacked Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former additional superintendent of police (ASP) Abdullahel Kafi, former deputy commissioner (DC) Mirpur Zone Md Jasim Uddin Mollah, former Additional Superintendant of Police (ASP) Md Shahidur Islam, former officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station Mazharul Islam and former detective branch (DB) of police inspector Arafat Hossain.
The tribunal on that day set December 19 for submitting the probe report in the case.
