DHAKA, Dec 04, 2024 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today allowed a plea filed for the family of Abul Harris Chowdhury, political adviser to former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, to bury his remains in a graveyard of their choice.
A High Court division bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the order as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted its report before the court, confirming that the remains exhumed from a grave in Savar identified as Mahmudur Rahman has matched the DNA of the family members of BNP leader Harris Chowdhury.
Allowing a petition filed by Chowdhury's daughter Samira Tanjin Chowdhury, the High Court on September 5 passed the order, asking CID to exhume the remains from the graveyard at the Jamia Khatamun Nabiyeen Madrasa in Savar and cross check it's DNA with the family members of the late BNP leader.
Chowdhury's family members for long were claiming that the body buried in 2021 in that graveyard under the name of Mahmudur Rahman, was indeed of Abul Hasan Chowdhury.
Following the court's order, CID exhumed the remains from the grave on October 16 and cross-checked it's DNA with the family members of Harris Chowdhury, whose result recently came positive.
