DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024(BSS) - Cashier of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and dismissed chairman of Chandanaish Upazila Parishad, Jasim Uddin, was sent to jail today in connection with an attempt to murder case lodged with city's Badda Thana.
Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Shariful Islam of Dhaka ordered to send him to jail after hearing the statement of the prosecution side.
Sub-Inspector Rasel Parvez of Badda Thana also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case produced Jasim Uddin Ahmed before the court of the magistrate with a prayer to keep him in jail till the end of the investigation into the case.
The lawyer of Jasim Uddin also prayed for granting him bail but the court fixed next Thursday for hearing the bail petition.
Police has arrested Jasim Uddin, former chairman of Chandanaish Upazila Parishad, from near a five star hotel at Nikunja residential area here early today.
According to the case story, Md Durjay Ahmed, joined the anti-discrimination students' movement at Post Office lane near Badda U-loop on July 20 last where he suffered bullet injuries in his both eyes by the armed cadres of Awami League and its front organizations. Both the eyes were affected by bullet wounds during the attack. He also received a bullet from the back side of his head and the attackers left him by the side of the road thinking him as dead, the police added.
Local people and pedestrians took him to nearby AZM Hospital from where he was shifted to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital for better treatment.
The complainant later filed an attempt to murder case with Badda Thana accusing 90 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Jasim Uddin is accused No. 21 in the case.
