DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024 (BSS) - Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Israil Hawlader today said police should go closer to the people to get their cooperation in maintaining law and order.
"The police should reach closer to the common people. The more the police can gain trust and confidence of the common people, the more cooperation they will get from them," he said.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with the student-people and eminent citizens of Tejgaon police station area, today.
Israil Hawlader stressed the need for reaching services of the police to people's doorsteps.
"We do not want to bring the people to the police station, rather the police will go to your doorstep and take legal action accordingly, after listening to your problems," he said.
The Additional Police Commissioner said, they want to develop the police as a real force.
"The police will work proactively.
So, such view exchange meetings with involving the police, students, the public, and respected citizens are being held in every police station under DMP areas to collect public opinions," he said.
He assured all that police have no scope to work beyond the rules.
"We want to ensure accountability of our work to the public," he said.
The students, the public and respected citizens of Mohammadpur police station area were also present at the meeting.
Mohammad Ali, an eminent citizen of Tejgaon Thana areas, highly praised such kind of meetings under DMP areas, hoping, "Such meeting should continue. We want to cooperate the police and work together with the police in any need .”
Another prominent citizen of Tejgaon police station area, Md. Faruk, said that the police should not be used for political purposes.
"We are ready to extend all sorts of cooperation to the police," he said.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan presided over the meeting.
Tejgaon Division officials of various ranks, leaders of various political, social, professional, religious organizations, heads of educational institutions and leaders of the student movements were present at the meeting.
