DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) today expressed deep concern over spreading false, fabricated, and baseless news about minority issues in Bangladesh by Indian media.
In a statement, BFUJ acting president Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, Secretary General Quader Gani Chowdhury, DUJ President Shahidul Islam and General Secretary Khurshid Alam strongly condemned such media reports terming it as ‘yellow journalism’.
The journalist leaders said, “We are observing with great concern that the Indian mainstream media is producing and spreading fabricated news one after another about the minority issues in Bangladesh with fabricated, false and baseless information”.
Journalist leaders pointed out that spreading of propaganda by Indian mainstream media is the reason behind conducting an anti-Bangladesh campaign with statements and slogans by some extremist groups all over India.
Citing data of various fact-checking organizations about Indian media’s propaganda, they said, “Recent activities of the Indian government and the role of its media made us feel that they want to incite communal clashes in our country aimed at portraying Bangladesh as a communal state in the world”.
“We believe that the incidents also strongly prove that the ousted Awami League government is behind them”, they added.
The journalist leaders said, “India is our big neighbour. We recall India's contribution in the great Liberation War with due respect. We want good relations with India based on fairness and equality”.
“We hope that Indian media will practice responsible journalism based on truth and facts respecting the democratic aspirations of the citizens of the new Bangladesh,” they added.
