RANGPUR, Dec 5, 2024 (BSS) - Leaders of different political parties agreed in a meeting to cooperate with Highway Police in providing overall security to passengers and vehicles moving on the highway, as well as to life and property.
They made the commitment in the views-exchange meeting held at the meeting room of the Highway Police of Rangpur region with its newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariqul Islam in the chair.
Convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Md Shamsuzzaman Samu, Organizing Secretary of Zia Parishad Central Committee Dr Md. Rokunuzzaman, Secretary of Rangpur district Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Md Enamul Haque, President of Rangpur district Islami Andolon Bangladesh A Rahman Quasemi, Maolana Zubayer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, President of Rangpur district Khelafat-Majlish Qari Ataul Haque and other leaders were present in the meeting.
Assistant Superintendent of Police for Rangpur Highway Police Circle Hareswar Roy and other police officials were present.
Taking part in the discussion, political leaders strongly demanded that three-wheelers be banned from the highway, motorcycles without a driving license, registration and a helmet be banned, and the police be more active on the highway to stop the harassment of Hijra community.
The newly appointed Highway Police SP listened to their statements and ordered his officials concerned to take necessary measures in this regard.
Apart from this, the SP advised all drivers to drive their vehicles with caution during winter because road accidents increase while driving amidst fog in the air.
After discussion, the participating leaders of different political parties expressed their firm commitment to extend all possible cooperation to Highway Police in ensuring security to all vehicles moving on the highway, passengers and properties.
