DHAKA, Dec 7, 2024 (BSS)- Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said the interim government has shouldered responsibility, not usurped to power.

“Those who will assume power through next election should also give a message to the people that they will discharge their responsibility with utmost sincerity,” she said.

The adviser said this while speaking at a discussion titled 'Mass aspirations, Mass Uprising, Expectations and Achievements: A Review on Current Situation'. organized by 'Gono Akangkha Mancha' at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium.

Emphasizing on ensuring harmony among people, the adviser said people should have the only identity that he/she is a human being and should not be divided on the basis of their religious identity.

"We need human identity. India is threatening us in the wake of some incidents by saying that our minorities, especially the Hindus are being oppressed. But we are not afraid of them. Because the change we wanted to bring, has been made by our youths. India could not stop our mass uprising. Bangladesh is not afraid of their propaganda," Farida said.

The adviser said youths have ousted the fascists through a mass uprising, which no political party could do.

She underscored the need for brining back Sheikh Hasina to the country for holding trial.

About the development of the agriculture, she said the agricultural sector will be expanded further not only by importing products but also increasing the production.

She urged everyone to be united to protect the country’s sovereignty saying: "It is not only the job of the army, but it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect sovereignty."

Paying tribute to the mothers of the martyrs of July-August uprising, she said, the government never want any injustice to be done to their families.

We have got a new Bangladesh in exchange of their blood. Many injured people are still suffering to their injuries, she said.

Convener of 'Gono Akangkha Mancha' Abdul Majid Antar was in the chair while Chief Coordinator of the State Reform Movement Advocate Hasnat Qayyum, Associate Professor of Sociology of  Dhaka University Samina Luthfa, Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Faruk Wasif and Associate Professor of Department of History of Rajshahi University Dr Golam Sarwar took part in the discussion, among others.
