Govt plans to continue educational activities in Jashore’s water-logged areas: Bidhan

JASHORE, Dec 7, 2024 (BSS) - Primary and Mass Education Adviser Prof Dr Bidhan Ranjon Ray Poddar today said the government is thinking of continuing the educational activities at primary level in three water-logged upazilas of the district.

The adviser has already instructed the upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) and field level officers of the primary education directorate to be careful so that the educational activities in those areas are not hampered.

He said this while exchanging views with the Upazila Nirbahi Officers and district level officers of the primary and mass education ministry at Jashore circuit house with Deputy Commissioner of Jashore Md Azaharul Islam in the chair.

Director General of the Primary Education Directorate Dr Md Abdul Hakim, Additional Director General Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman and upazila nirbahi officers and primary education officers of eight upazilas of the district were present at the view-exchange meeting.

Highlighting the overall educational activities of the interim government Dr Bidhan said, all the previous school management committees have been dissolved and new committees have been formed. If the performance of the present management committees are satisfactory, then the next elected government will work to continue these development works, he said.

At the beginning of the meeting, the adviser wanted to know the educational status of primary level at three water-logged upazilas of the district and urged all to give specific proposals to develop the standard of education at primary level.

The concerned officials told the meeting that the students of eight unions under Manirampur upazila, 16 schools at Avaynagar and eight schools under Keshabpur upazilas are continuing their educational activities in submerged school buildings. They urged the higher authorities to introduce online classes for those educational institutions like the period of Covid-19 or introducing satellite schools to avoid dropout of students.

They also urged the government to introduce mid-day meals in all schools of the area as the percentage of students attending schools is higher in those places where the mid-day meal system has already been introduced. They requested the adviser to appoint part-time teachers for the water-logged schools to meet up the shortage of teachers.
