DHAKA, Dec 8, 2024 (BSS)- Speakers at a discussion here today underscored the need for reconciliation among actors of July-August mass uprising to establish a democratic country.
They said ousted Awami League regime destroyed the ideology of the liberation war. However, the July-August uprising has created an opportunity for a reconciliation among all political forces.
Democratic State Council, a non-party platform arranged the discussion at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) today.
Speaking on the occasion General Secretary of the Workers Party of Bangladesh Saiful Huq said, his party doesn’t differ with the demands of different political parties, but any decision should be based on national consensus.”
Criticizing India’s role in tainting the relations with Bangladesh and other neighboring countries, he said despite being a democratic country India could not maintain good relation with its neighbours.
Talking about the rehabilitating Awami League in the politics, Saiful Huq said, the party must face trial for genocide. Without trial the party cannot have the right to enter in the domain of inclusive politics, he said.
Saiful Huq said imposing ban on a political party like Awami League should not be a wise decision, as it may indemnify the party’s misdeeds.
Taking part in the discussion noted writer and Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Mahbub Morshed said, people of all sections of the society took part and made sacrifice in the anti-fascism movement. Now each of them is serious to realize their all demands at a time which is not possible.
“So, we need to form a national consensus among all stakeholders of the movement which may help establish a non-discriminatory democratic society by fulfilling the interests of all,” he said.
Noted researcher Dr Tofail Ahmed said the interim government must complete all necessary reforms within the stipulated time.
Noted journalists Manjurul Islam and Ashraf Kaiser, Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub took part in the discussion while DSC convener Sheikh Abdun Noor was in the chair.
