DHAKA, Dec 8, 2024 - (BSS) - Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) have accorded a reception to the Bangladesh Women Football Team for its achievement, winning victory in the SAFF Women's Football Championship-2024 at Bay Watch at Inani of Cox's Bazar, an ISPR press release said today.
It said Army Chief General Wakar-Uz-Zaman joined as the chief guest the reception, joined as well by Navy chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan and Chief of Air Force Air chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.
The players, coaches and others concerned to the team were awarded crests, gifts and a check of Tk one crore on behalf of the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
“The women's football team of Bangladesh can move forward with the inspiration of this victory,” the army chief said.
He expected the Bangladeshi women footballers to brighten the country’s image in the whole world in the days to come while their success would spread new inspiration in the country's sports arena.
The Bangladesh women's team beat Nepal in the final game of the tournament (Bangladesh-2, Nepal-1) in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on October 30, 2024.
This was the second such victory of the Bangladesh team.
Two accomplished players of the team Rituparna Chakma Rupana Chakma were given the Best Player’s and Best Goalkeeper’s awards in this competition.
Senior army, navy and air force officers and senior officials of BOA and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), media personalities and other dignitaries were present.
