Govt to seek Hasina’s extradition after completing legal procedures

DHAKA, Dec 08, 2024 (BSS)- Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shfiqul Alam today said the government will formally ask India to extradite ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina after completing legal procedures.
 
“We have an extradition treaty with India. After completing legal procedures, we will formally approach to India asking the country to extradite her,” he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening.
      
“Our stance is very clear-we want to bring Sheikh Hasina to justice by returning her home. Mass killing took place during her regime,” he added.
 
At her directives, Alam said, about 1,500 people were killed in the July-August revolution, while many people were disappeared during her regime.

He said white paper has revealed public money worth about US$ 16 billion was siphoned off from the country every year during Hasina’s regime.
 
“So, it is our commitment that Sheikh Hasina would be brought to justice,” the press secretary said.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present during the briefing.
