Veteran Journalist Ershad Majumder passes away 

DHAKA, Dec 09, 2024 (BSS) – Noted Journalist Ershad Majumder died of old age complications while undergoing treatment at city’s United Hospital last night.
He was 84.

Veteran Journalist, translator, poet and researcher Ershad Majuder breathed his last at 10.45pm on Saturday night as he was suffering from different old age complications including diabetic and cardiac ailment, said his family sources here today.

Born on March 8 in 1940 at Ukilpara in Feni, Ershad Majumder studied at Feni College, Jagannath and Dhaka Colleges. He completed graduation degree in 1961 from Dhaka University. 

He joined the then Pakistan Observer as an economic reporter and started his career as a Journalist. 

Majumder, also a pioneer of the economic journalism in the country, worked at different news papers including ‘Dainik Sangbad’, ‘Dainik Purbodesh’, ‘Dainik Banglar Bani’ and ‘Dainik Janapad’. 

He was also chief editor of Weekly Reporter in 1978. Then he had worked as a Managing Editor (ME) in the Daily New Age and Daily New Nation.

He took retirement from the journalistic profession in 1998.

Ershad Majumder also was a successful translator. He had translated the poetries of Rumi and Mansur Hallaj. A total of fourteen books including story, literature and poem were published in his name.

His publications include ‘Mayer Chithi’, ‘Kabitar Boi’, ‘Chorar Boi’, ‘Upannash Nayika’, literature Nar-Nari and Ramani, Krishna Kotha, Srimiti Kotha, Pita-Putrake etc.
