DHAKA, Dec 10, 2024 (BSS) - Eminent banker and social worker Rakhal Chandra Barua died of brain hemorrhage today at the age of 75.
Barua, also a Buddhist organizer, breathed his last around 4:30 pm at his residence located in the Kazir Dewri area in Chattogram, said family sources.
He is survived by two sons, a daughter, relatives, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.
The death of Barua, an auditor of the century-old Bangladesh Buddhist Association, cast a pall of gloom, especially in the Buddhist community.
He was associated with several socio-cultural and Buddhist organizations, particularly the Buddhist Foundation and BLIA, along with serving as president of the Bangladesh Buddhist Yuba Parishad Chattogram chapter.
His first civic condolence meeting will be held at Navapandit Bihar, Kathalganj, in Chattagram on Thursday afternoon. Later, he will be cremated at his native village Jaldi under Bashkhali municipality after the second condolence meeting next Friday upon the arrival of his son from abroad.
Barua had been bedridden for nearly one year after having a massive brain stroke.
