Dhaka for stronger collaboration with UN

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka today called for stronger collaboration with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Bangladesh to keep the country's development momentum.

The call was made when the UNCT, led by UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis, briefed Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin on their ongoing work at the foreign ministry here, according to a press release. 

The meeting also highlighted collaborative responses to the Rohingya crisis, it added. 

During the meeting, the foreign secretary mentioned Bangladesh's emergence as a global leader in multilateralism to the UNCT. 

The UNCT team was comprised of heads and representatives of various UN agencies operating in Bangladesh, like UNHCR, IOM, UN Women, UNFPA, UNESCO, UNICEF, FAO, UNIDO, UNODC, IFAD, UNOPS, WHO, WFP, UNDP, and ILO.

The briefing focused on strategic priority areas under which the UNCT operates in Bangladesh, including Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development, Equitable Human Development, Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Environment, Inclusive Governance, and Gender Equality.
