DHAKA, Dec 11, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to take a number of time-befitting initiatives, including formation of a quick response team, to ensure better and quicker services to 20 million city dwellers.
"DMP has planned to form a quick response team to ensure that better police services are provided at the earliest," DMP Commissioner S.M. Sazzat Ali told BSS today.
Joint commissioner (operations) of the DMP Headquarters will centrally coordinate and supervise the activities of the team while divisional deputy commissioners will look into activities of the teams under their jurisdiction, he said.
The officers-in-charge (OCs) of the 50 police stations under the DMP will be entrusted with the task of coordinating the activities of the quick response team at the thana levels, he said.
Asked about the reason of formation of the quick response team, he said, "We want to curtail the response time of the general diaries (GDs) or any complaints filed with the police stations.
We are planning to address the complaints within one hour after they are registered."
As part of the move to ensure better services, he said, they will open complaint boxes in and outside the DMP Headquarters and all the police stations in the city.
The DMP commissioner said they are pledge-bound to provide the best police service in line with the opinions of all concerned, including the people.
"So, we are holding view exchanges with cross-section of the people to know what services they want from the police," he said.
As part of its plan, the DMP has been working to involve the commoners in police activities as in many cases it is difficult for them to work without the cooperation of the people of Dhaka, he said.
The DMP has started working to make the entire society aware to build resistance against criminal acts, particularly against extortion, he said.
He said, "We believe that everyone's small efforts will make a big contribution to restoring order in the traffic management of the metropolis."
