DHAKA, Dec 11, 2024 (BSS)- Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said the interim government is working to ensure a sustainable, cost-effective and high-quality energy policy.
The interim government will adopt all necessary policies and legal frameworks to achieve this goal, she said at Bangladesh Energy Prosperity 2050 Conference at the BIAM Foundation Complex here today.
Rezwana said the government would give importance to public opinions in the revised power sector action plan. The government is now striving to address the challenges in the power sector, she said.
The adviser said despite the existing agreements of power sector are inconsistent, it’s very difficult to cancel those as the process is very costly and time-consuming. Therefore, decision should be taken through careful planning, she added.
Rezwana added that directives have been given to publish the Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) of power projects on websites.
She emphasised the need for modern building designs to promote energy efficiency and urged for increasing the use of renewable energy. She also suggested tree plantation on lands acquired for power projects.
Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Advisor of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, spoke in the event as the chief guest.
Dr. Mohammad Tamim of BUET, Munawar Misbah Moin, MD of Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy Limited (RREL), Dipal Chandra Barua, Chairperson of Bright Green Energy Foundation, Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director of Centre for Policy Dialogue and Cynan Houghton, Deputy Regional Programme Director of Tara Climate Foundation also took part in the discussion.
Government officials, energy experts, academics, and development partners participated in the conference.
Discussions focused on addressing the energy crisis, promoting renewable energy, and ensuring efficient energy use.
