KHULNA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS) - A Khulna court today placed former Land Minister and Ex-Lawmaker from Khulna-5 constituency Naryan Chandra Chanda on a one-day remand in a case filed against him under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Judge of Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Rakibul Islam passed the order as police produced Naryan before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.
Advocate Mominul Islam, lawyer of the plaintiff and Khulna divisional coordinator of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Association, confirmed the matter.
Golam Rasul, a cousin of the victim filed a petition with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 against Ex-Land Minister Naryan Chandra Chanda and Ex-Dumuria upazila Chairman Gazi Ezaz Ahmad, among others, on October 9, 2024 to this end.
In the petition, the plaintiff alleged that ex-Dumuria UP chairman Ezaz raped the victim several times alluring to marry her.
On January 27, the victim was admitted at One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where a gang of armed men kidnapped her by the directives of Naryan Chandra Chanda on the next day.
The Court asked the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga Police to file a case against the offenders after investigation. On October 17, Police filed the case against them including Naryan.
Earlier on October 6, Former Land Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda was arrested from Jhenaidah as he attempted to flee India crossing the border illegally.
