City to go under foolproof security on three occasions  

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has chalked out foolproof security measures for peaceful celebration of the Victory Day, Christmas Day and 31st night in the capital.

DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today said after a coordination meeting on security, law and order and traffic management at DMP headquarters.

“DMP will take flawless security measures to maintain the law and order in the city ahead of the three big events,” he said, seeking full cooperation from the citizens for peacefully celebration of the occasions.

“We have planned foolproof security measures to make sure no untoward and subversive incident is occurred marking the days,” he added.      

At the beginning of the meeting DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah gave presentation on overall security plan adopted centering the three events in the capital.

According to the plan, adequate number of uniformed and plainclothes police force will be deployed in every church in addition to sweeping by dog squads. Fire service and civil defense force will be kept ready.

Power supply would remain uninterrupted in all church and no floating shops or hawkers would be allowed to sit in the church area. Pilgrims were requested not to come to the churches with any bags.

Patrols of the law enforcing agencies in the city would be increased on the eve of 31 night and New Year celebration. 

Fireworks, crackers and lanterns would be completely prohibited. Nobody would be allowed to enter the Dhaka University area without an ID card on the 31st night. 

As part of integrated traffic management, Traffic Department would control vehicular movement in Gulshan, Hatirjheel and Dhaka University areas.

In addition, intelligence surveillance would be heightened along with cyber patrolling to prevent rumors and propaganda, and social media would be monitored.

High officials of DMP were present at the meeting.

Later, in a meeting with Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Segunbagicha the DMP Commissioner said there is no security threat over the Victory Day, Christmas Day and 31st night.
