DHAKA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS)- Dhaka University Cultural Union organized an exhibition and musical soiree commemorating renowned mystic singer and song composer Ukil Munshi marking his 46th death anniversary.
Beside the musical event, filmmaker Anarya Murshid’s documentary titled ‘Ukil Munshi: Birohi Bhaber Somrat’ produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, was screened in the premises of Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student centre (TSC).
Poet, Writer and Philosopher Farhad Mazhar and singer Kafil Ahmed addressed the programme chaired by Dhaka University Cultural Union president Mahbub Khalashi.
Addressing the programme, poets underscored the need for a cultural revolution to prevent religious fundamentalism and extremism as well as establish religious harmony in the country.
Singer Kafil Ahmed said, “We dream for a new country where we will have no fundamentalism, no extremism but religious harmony”.
The compositions and songs were performed by Akash Gayen, Shah Muhammad Shipon, Khokon Chishti, Maruf Mrinmoy, Naveen Kishore Goswami, Abhishek Roy Archan, Anindya Biswas, Jayanta Pal Joy, Imran Hossain, Shyamal Ahmed Sajal, Ayan Islam Oli, Abu Rashed, Ashikur Rahman Bandhan, Nazmul Hasan Lanju, Neon Reza, Tanmoy Chandra Roy, Leonard Dhrub, Hridoy Roy Himel, Dewan Rizwan, Shahni Bepari, and others.
Abdul Hazi Akand was born in 1918. He wrote more than one thousand songs and was known as Ukil Munshi in the music world. Ukil Munshi died on August 6, 1978.
