BRUR observes Martyred Intellectuals Day

RANGPUR, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS) - The Martyred Intellectuals Day-2024 was observed with due dignity and paying homage to the martyred intellectuals at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) today.
 
In observance of the day, a condolence rally was held at the Domdoma massacre site in Rangpur city in the morning. Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs by placing wreaths there.
 
Later, tributes were paid by various faculties, departments, offices and residential halls. Later, a discussion was organized on the second floor of the cafeteria to mark the day.
 
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali participated in the discussion as the chief guest with Convener of the Martyred Intellectuals Day-2024 Celebration Committee Professor Dr Md Tajul Islam in the chair.
 
In his speech, Professor Showkat Ali remembered the best sons of the nation on the Martyred Intellectuals Day and their supreme sacrifice on the eve of the ultimate victory in the war of liberation.
 
“The intellectual community of this country sacrificed their lives selflessly on December 14, 1971 to build an exploitation-free Bangladesh,” he said.
 
The Vice-chancellor also said that the nation has achieved new independence through the student revolution in July-August Revolution. BRUR student Shaheed Abu Sayeed played a leading role in this revolution.
 
He paid deep respect to the martyrs killed in the July-August Revolution.
 
The Vice-chancellor called upon everyone to work together to eliminate discrimination from society including the Shaheed Abu Sayeed’s university.
 
“Everyone should participate in all the progress of Begum Rokeya University by embracing the sacrifice and inspiration of the intellectuals and make the institution the best university in North Bengal,” he added.
 
Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Archaeology Dr Md Moniruzzaman and Research Officer of the Dr Wazed International Research and Training Institute Dr Md Rokunuzzaman also took part in the discussion.
 
Moderated by Director of the Office of the Student Affairs Dr. Md. Ileas Pramanik, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Md Ferdous Rahman, Dr. Md. Emdadul Haque, Dean of the Faculty Of Life And Earth Science Dr Md Emdadul Haque, Head of the Department of Bengali Professor Dr Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman, also spoke.
 
A Dua Mahfil was also arranged at the university's central mosque after Zuhr prayers seeking divine blessings of the souls of the martyred intellectuals.
