DHAKA, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS)- Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan today urged all to dedicate their life in nation building activities being imbued with the sacrificial spirit of martyred intellectuals of 1971.
Addressing a discussion organized by DU authority marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day at TSC auditorium the VC said the country became independent at the cost of huge sacrifice of the intellectuals.
“We must acknowledge the blood debt of the martyred intellectuals. We must pay the price of their blood through discharging our responsibility”, he said.
Prof. Niaz said the DU played the most significant role in all movements from 1952 to 1969, War of Liberation in 1971, anti-autocrat movement in 80s and 90s, and in the student-people uprising in 2024.
The VC said the students of the DU have always stood beside the nation in their needs. Students of present time must uphold the spirit of their forerunners, he said.
At the beginning one-minute silence was observed in the memory of martyred intellectuals.
DU Alumni Association Convener Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Dr Sajeda Banu, sister of martyred intellectual Professor Dr Giasuddin Ahmed, DU treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, among others, took part in the discussion.
Students, teachers, deans of different faculties and chairmen of various departments, member of the proctorial body and officials were present.
