DHAKA, Dec 15, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said his party is criticizing many works being carried out by the present interim government, but that does not mean BNP is opposing it or demanding the ouster of this government.
“The interim government, formed after students-people mass uprising, is trying to work for the country. We are trying to cooperate with the government, also criticizing its many activities being carried out by them. But that does not mean we are opposing the government or demanding its ouster,” he said.
The senior BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a programme of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal for distributing winter clothes among destitute in front of Suchona Community Centre in the capital’s Mohammadpur area this afternoon.
Emphasizing the role of the political parties behind various developments in the country, Rizvi said politicians’ contribution is essential for the state reforms.
“Intellectuals thought about the reforms, which are needed for taking the country towards development, but it was the politicians, who actually implemented those reforms. We are definitely seeing some progress. Now, we are being able to return to our homes safely after addressing political programmes. We are not being picked up by police,” he added.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi called for bringing the price of the essential commodities under control, saying,“We are yet to break the market syndicate of the past fascist government. Identifying those people and bringing the middlemen to justice are needed. Still money is being extorted from the transports. The government has to stop these.”
"If the interim government keeps Sheikh Hasina's ‘insects’ in the administration intact, how can it will take the country forward? The SP who shot and killed the protester Shaon in Narayanganj, was brought to Dhaka with a promotion. Then how can we stop extortion, terrorism, and killings? On the contrary, giving good post to the police who have caused bloodshed on the streets is harmful for the current government and those who will come later,” the BNP leader said.
He praised the leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, saying they are selling agricultural products in cheap price, buying seeds from Bogura at a low price and distributing those among the farmers in Kurigram. “For this, I thank the Krishak Dal on behalf of BNP. There is no movement now, but no one from BNP is sitting idle. They are working in the public interest,” he also said.
Presided over by Krishak Dal Dhaka North City unit convener Asjadul Aris Doll, and conducted by its member secretary Shafiqur Rahman Mithu, the program was also attended by Krishak Dal president Agriculturist Hasan Jafir Tuhin, general secretary Shahidul Islam Babul, office secretary Md Shafiqul Islam, publicity affairs secretary Shamsur Rahman Shams and other senior leaders organizations’ north city unit, among others.
