BRUR celebrates Victory Day with colorful programmes

RANGPUR, Dec 16, 2024 (BSS) - The Great Victory Day-2024 was celebrated today with colorful programmes at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) paying rich tribute to the martyrs of the War of Liberation.
 
The celebration of the day began with the hoisting of the national flag amid rendering of the national anthem early in the morning.
 
Then, a colorful Victory Procession, led by Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, was brought out from the south gate of the administrative building with the participation of teachers, students, officials and employees.
 
The procession passed through Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square with the beat of music and circled the main roads of the campus and ended at the Independence Memorial Square.
 
The Vice-chancellor paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War by placing wreaths at the Independence Memorial Square.
 
Subsequently, tributes were paid by various faculties, departments, offices and residential halls and social and cultural organizations of the university.
 
A discussion was organized at the Independence Memorial Square at 10:30 am marking the day.
 
Participating in the discussion as the chief guest, the Vice-chancellor said that the nation is celebrating its first Victory Day in a new context after gaining its second independence through the July uprising.
 
He remembered with deep respect the martyrs of the great Liberation War and the martyrs and injured of the July Revolution on the Victory Day.  “Let us not forget those who sacrificed and contributed to the July-August movement,” he said.
 
The Vice-chancellor called on all concerned to contribute from their respective positions to implement the goals of the Liberation War, inspired by the spirit and values of the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
 
With convener of the Great Victory Day-2024 Celebration Committee Professor Dr Md Tajul Islam in the chair, Director of the Office of the Student Affairs Dr Md Ileas Pramanik, Registrar Dr Md Harun-or Rashid, students Shamsur Rahman and Rubayet Hasan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
 
A sports competition was held with the participation of students, teachers, officers and employees on the occasion of Victory Day.
 
Later, the Vice-chancellor inaugurated the blood group determination programme initiated by the voluntary organization Begum Rokeya University Blood Association.
 
In the afternoon, the prize distribution function followed by a cultural programme was organized at the Independence Memorial Square.
 
In addition, different buildings and structures on the university campus were illuminated marking the Great Victory Day 2024.
