DHAKA, Dec 16, 2024 (BSS) - The Bangladesh embassy in Rome, Italy, celebrated Victory Day with due solemnity and dignity.
On the occasion, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Rakibul Haque hoisted the national flag singing the national anthem in the morning.
Embassy officials and staff were present to mark the official commencement of the celebrations.
The second phase of the celebration included a discussion held at the embassy's conference hall.
Embassy officials and staff, Bangladeshi students studying in Italy, prominent expatriate community members, social and business leaders, and distinguished Italian friends of Bangladesh were present.
The program commenced with a one-minute silence to honor the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and those who sacrificed their lives during the student-led mass uprising in Bangladesh in 2024.
Messages from Bangladesh's President, Chief Adviser, and Foreign Adviser were read out on the occasion.
A documentary highlighting the significance of Victory Day was also screened.
Speakers at the discussion emphasized the importance of Victory Day and applauded the current government's reform initiatives.
They expressed their commitment towards building a just, prosperous, and developed Bangladesh. The session also highlighted the vital role of expatriates.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Haque called for collective support to make the initiatives of the interim government successful.
He urged expatriates to contribute positively to Bangladesh's economic growth by sending remittances through legal channels.
The ambassador also reaffirmed the embassy's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy, as well as safeguarding the rights and welfare of Bangladeshis living in Italy.
The day's events concluded with a pledge to continue efforts for the prosperity of Bangladesh and strengthen the bond between the Bangladeshi community and their homeland.
