DHAKA, Dec 17, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said reform is a continuous democratic process, which is not possible to be done sitting at table.
“Only elected government having people’s mandate will carry out complete reforms in the parliament,” he told a discussion at BSMMU hospital in the capital.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organized the discussion titled “Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Today's Bangladesh”. Financial assistance was also provided to July uprising injured people during the programme.
BNP’s Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam was present on the occasion.
Amir Khasru said partnership and ownership of the reform should be at the hands of the people of the country. No reform will be effective if the intentions of the politicians are bad, he added.
Noting that BNP was established through reforms, he said Bangladesh is sustaining even after being destroyed by the Awami League regime due to overall reforms made by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Mentioning about the Ziaur Rahman’s development activities, Amir Khasru said from the tenure of President Ziaur Rahman, Bangladesh has been able to stand tall in the international arena as an independent and sovereign country.
Many initiatives were implemented during Ziaur Rahman’s tenure including developing the garment industry and manpower exporting.
Bangladesh where it stands now was achieved under the leadership of Ziaur Rahman.
