RANGPUR, Dec 18, 2024 (BSS) - Former executive director of Nazrul Institute poet Abdul Hye Sikder has said Kazi Nazrul Islam was truly the beacon of the spirit of the July Revolution.

"I am not exaggerating or telling a lie, you can understand it by looking at the graffiti and wall writing on every street of Dhaka and whole Bangladesh that our children have been enlightened with the light of Nazrul's writing," he said.

Sikder said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating the aesthetically designed 'Swadhinata Square' titled 'Chiro Unnoto Momo Sheer' set up at the Rangpur Police Lines School and College ground in the city by unveiling the plaque today.
 
The Police Lines School and College authority has set up the 'Swadhinata Square' to showcase the songs, poems, essays and articles of rebel poet Nazrul to the new generation as they are the most relevant to the student-public movement in the July Uprising 2024.

Sikder, also a multi-dimensional writer and Nazrul expert, said that Nazrul is so relevant that, wherever the exploited speak against exploitation, Nazrul is there, wherever people will struggle for independence, Nazrul is there.
 
"Every time we struggle for bringing back human rights or establishing the rule of law or women's freedom or building a non-communal Bangladesh, Nazrul is inevitable for us," he said.
 
He said, in every utterance of the July Revolution, poet Nazrul's writings have become a symbol of the inevitable revolution, and the slogans have been reflected in every action, including the slogan on the wall.
 
Poet Abdul Hye Sikder told reporters that just as a human being needs light, air, food and water for living, every nation needs a great poet like Nazrul for its survival.
 
"All these four things are available only in poet Nazrul's writings and we do not get these things in any other poet in Bengali literature. Nazrul is always relevant for Bangladesh. Bangladesh means Nazrul." he said.

He thanked Bangladesh Police and Rangpur Police Lines School and College for taking the initiative to build Nazrul Square to showcase poet Nazrul to the new generation.

 
"Through this, the multidimensional relevance of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be stirred and awakened to the new generation. The aspiration of building a society and nation without discrimination will be realized," he hoped.
 
Later, Abdul Hye Sikder attended a discussion on "Eternal Nazrul: Struggle in Contemporary Times" held at the Police Lines School and College auditorium as the chief guest.

Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police for Rangpur Range Aminul Islam presided over the event.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Rangpur Police Line School and College Principal Professor Dr KM Jalal Uddin Akbar, Vice-principal of Kurigram Government Women's College Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Associate Professor of the Department of Bengali of Carmichael College Md Mizanur Rahman, Vice Principal (Academic) of Police Lines School and College Jahangir Alam, Vice-principal of Rangpur Police Lines School and College Golam Zakaria and Rangpur metropolitan Convener of the anti-discrimination movement Imtiaz Ahmed Imti addressed.
