Sayeed-Mugdho’s sacrifice won’t be allowed to go in vain: IAB Amir

RANGPUR, Dec 18, 2024 (BSS) - Amir of the Islamic Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim has said the sacrifice of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Shaheed Mugdho in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will not be allowed to go in vain.
 
“The scene of Abu Sayeed spreading his arms in both directions and raising his chest in the movement and Mugdho calling out ‘water, water’ is vivid in my eyes. Through  their sacrifice, we will have to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh,” he said.
 
The IAB Amir, also known as Charmonai Pir, said this in his speech as the chief guest at a public rally at Rangpur Public Library ground on Wednesday evening.
 
IAB Rangpur Metropolitan Committee organized the rally to protest the attack on Bangladesh Assistant High Commission   in India and demanding trial of the massacre committed during the mass uprising.
 
He    demanded arrest of corrupt people, confiscation of their illegal assets and declaration of their ineligibility to take part in national polls.

He also demanded national election under the proportional representation system and establishment of a welfare state based on Islamic society.
 
Regarding the controversial remarks of the Indian Prime Minister on the Victory Day of Bangladesh, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said  the people of Bangladesh have been hurt by such remarks of the Indian Prime Minister.
 
“India did not free this country, rather this country became independent in exchange for the lives and blood of millions of martyrs in the great liberation war of 1971,” he said.
 
Charmonai Pir said that in the past 53 years, self-interested people have used scholars ,  Ulama and some Islamic parties as a stepping stone to come to power.
 
He called upon the interim government to quickly complete the reform process and focus on transferring power to the elected government by ensuring the people's voting rights.
 
With IAB Rangpur Metropolitan President Hafez Maulana Abdur Rahman Quasemi in the chair, the party's presidium member Professor Mahbubur Rahman addressed the rally as special guest.
 
Rangpur District IAB President Muhammad Mahmudur Rahman Ripon Sarkar, Rangpur Metropolitan Secretary Muhammad Amiruzzaman Piyal and other leaders including Maulana Joynal Abedin and Mohammad Abu Raihan, among others, also spoke.
