DHAKA, Dec 19, 2024 (BSS)- Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said all public transport more than 20 years old would not allow to ply on city roads to protect the environment.
“The outdated transports will not be allowed on city roads and stern action will be taken against those vehicles,” he said.
He urged the transport owners to replace the dilapidated buses immediately saying, if necessary, the government would give financial support to procure new transports.
The adviser was speaking at a meeting organized by Road Transport and Highways Division to restore discipline in city’s traffic system and making the city free from pollution.
Advisers of Interim government Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, Adilur Rahman Khan and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, IGP Dr Baharul Alam, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant M Khoda Box Chowdhury and concerned senior officials attended the meeting held at Bijoy Hall of Bidyut Bhaban on Abdul Gani Road here today.
Fouzul Kabir Khan asked the employees of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to correct them within one month saying otherwise stern action would be taken against those who would be found keeping the people hostage.
The Adviser also asked the concern authorities to check the fitness of every vehicle and issue driving license only to competent persons after necessary verification.
Fouzul Kabir also directed the law and enforcement agencies to identify the spots which are reeling on traffic jams regularly and take steps to give people remedy from the congestion. He also asked all concerned officials to start work to free the footpaths for pedestrians from next week.
The Adviser said his ministry will issue letter to the Education Ministry to arrange school bus for the students.
The meeting also discussed the issue of bringing all peddle and battery-run rickshaws under registration process.
