DHAKA, Dec 20, 2024 (BSS) - Senior lawyers of the Supreme Court today described Adviser A F Hassan Ariff as a shining star and role model in the field of law in the country.
They said this in their instant reactions to BSS at the death of eminent lawyer and Adviser to the Interim Government on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism A F Hassan Ariff.
A senior lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Hassan Ariff died of a massive cardiac arrest at 3.35pm today at the city’s Labaid hospital. He was 85.
Giving his reaction, former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Bodruddoza Badal said Hassan Ariff was an iconic lawyer.
"He was a good person and a distinguished lawyer. In his profession, he was friendly to juniors. He always maintained good relations with everyone and was a humble person," he added.
The country's apex court will forever remember an experienced lawyer like Ariff, Barrister Badal said adding that as Amicus Curiae in many cases, he (Hassan Ariff) assisted the court with legal interpretations and opinions. The country and lawyer community have lost a true guardian at his death.
Enrollment Committee of Bangladesh Bar Council Member, Senior Joint Secretary General of Nationalist Lawyers Forum and Senior Advocate Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal said Hassan Ariff achieved unique acceptability of all as he served as an advisor to two neutral governments.
His death is an irreparable loss for the country and in the field of law as well, he said.
Ariff had achieved enormous success as a lawyer, he said, adding that as a member of the lawyer community, his neutral and acceptable role in various responsibilities of the state will be a memorable example.
Barrister Kajal hoped that the next generation will follow the works and ideals of Hassan Ariff, who also served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh from October 2001 to April 2005.
Supreme Court Advocate Siddique Ullah Miah said the death of Hassan Ariff has created vacuum in the legal field. His flexibility and etiquette towards the legal profession and the court will be an example to follow, he added.
Hassan Ariff became a matter of pride for lawyers as he repeatedly served in state positions, he added.
