DHAKA, Dec 21, 2024 (BSS) – Police today arrested two professional muggers in connection with killing of Hafez Kamrul Hasan on the capital's Jatrabari flyover.
The arrested were identified as Shakil, 16 and Ashraful Islam, 17.
A team of Jatrabari Police Station conducted a raid in the Karatitola area of ??Jatrabari at 6:30 am and arrested the duo.
Police said Hafez Kamrul Hasan, 23, left for Sayedabad bus stand from Rayerbagh bus stand area with his friends to travel to Sajek walking along the Jatrabari flyover at around 8:40 pm. When he reached near the Saathi Residential Hotel on the flyover, some muggers stopped him and tried to snatch his mobile phone and valuables.
But the victim, Kamrul Hasan tried to protect himself, which initiated pushing and shoving with the muggers. At one stage, one mugger Rohan stabbed him in the chest with a sharp knife.
When Kamrul Hasan fell down on the flyover, the muggers snatched a mobile phone with an estimated value of Taka 11,000 and Taka 7,000 cash and fled the scene.
Seeing Kamrul Hasan lying on the flyover in seriously injured condition, a passerby named Rubel took him to Islamia Hospital in Dhalpur for treatment.
Upon receiving the news, Kamrul Hasan's father rushed to the hospital. Later, he was shifted to the Mugdha Medical College and Hospital for better treatment that day from Islamia Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Kamrul Hasan's father Md. Imam Hossain filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station on Friday.
Jatrabari Police identified the muggers with the help of CCTV footage analysis around the scene, and intelligence information and technology.
Later, police arrested the two wearing the same clothes, cap and shoes that they were wearing at the time of the snatching and murder.
Further legal action is underway against those arrested in this incident. Operations are going on to arrest other members of the mugging gang.
