DHAKA, Dec 22, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh embassy in Yangon hosted a reception for the diplomatic community, eminent Myanmar nationals and expatriate Bangladeshi nationals to celebrate the Great Victory Day at its Chancery.
Heads of diplomatic missions in Yangon, other diplomats, representatives of UN and other International Organizations, business leaders, eminent persons of Myanmar, faculty members and students of universities, professionals attended the reception on Saturday, according to message received here today.
A cultural programme comprising Myanmar traditional dance and instrumental music-'Harp' performed by the students of the National University of Art & Culture in Yangon and dance performance by the children of the embassy family mesmerized the guests.
Ambassador Dr. M Monwar Hossain, in his brief remarks, expressed his reverence to the freedom fighters of the liberation war and the oppressed women who made the highest sacrifice of their life for the independence.
He also remembered the martyrs of the July-August movement who dreamt of building a new Bangladesh free from any sort of discrimination.
Hossain mentioned that the great victory on 16 December 1971 is the most important achievement in the history of Bangladesh and is an outcome of a 23 years long political struggle that came at a high price through a blood-soaked liberation war.
He also mentioned the current government's initiatives to recognize the roles of expatriate Bangladeshis in nation building.
In the evening, another colourful cultural segment, performed by the embassy family and members of Bangladesh Community, was applauded by the guests.
On 16 December 2024, the embassy hoisted the national flag with national anthem, observed one minute silence in respect to the memories of the martyrs of the liberation war, read out of the messages given by the president, chief adviser and foreign adviser and screened two documentaries and held discussion meeting.
