NARAYANGANJ, Dec 22, 2024(BSS) - Three youths accused in a case filed over the death of a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in a road accident at Purbachal area in the district on Thursday morning placed on a two-day police remand.
The accused youths-Mubin Al-Mamun, 20, Mirajul Karim, 22 and Asif Chowdhury, 20, were produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Nur Mohsin with a prayer for granting their five days police remand to investigate into the case.
The lawyers of the accused prayed for granting their bail and opposed the remand petition. The court after hearing the both sides, granted two-day police remand of the accused rejecting the bail petition, Court Inspector Kaiyum Khan told BSS.
Meanwhile, the friends and classmates of deceased Mohtasim Masud gathered at the court area here this morning and formed a human chain demanding the trial of the youths responsible for the death of the BUET student.
Muhtasim Masud, a student of BUET and his friends-Mehedi Hassan Khan and Amit Saha, were critically injured at a check post in Purbachal area on Thursday morning when a private car boarding another three youths hit the bike of the BUET student from back side.
As a result, Muhtasim Masud died on the spot and his two friends fell on the ground with severe injuries.
Police, later seized a blank bottle of wine and one cane beer from the car. All the three youths were found positive in dope test later.
Masud Miah, father of Muhtasim Masud, later filed a case with Rupganj Thana in this connection.
