Online fraud: Five put on one-day remand

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed five people on one-day remand each for gobbling up Tk 21.50 lakh through online forgery.
The accused are Ashiq, 27, Imran Hasan Opu, 21, Qayede Azam, 22, Mehdi Hasan alias Sabbir, 22, and Faisal Ahmed, 23.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman granted one-day remand for each of the accused as the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector of the DB's Financial Crime Investigation Team Mostak Ahmed Taden, produced them before the court seeking a seven-day remand for proper investigation.

According to the case statement, they were found involved in cheating job-seekers and embezzled Tk 21.50 lakh through an online scam under the banner of a company named Upgrowth Company.

On December 1, one of the victims, Shakhawat Hossain, filed a case with the Kotwali police station alleging that Taka over 21.50 lakh were taken away by a fraud gang in the name of offering jobs.

Later, police arrested the accused from Dhaka and Cumilla districts on December 18.

They were sent to jail through a court order the next day.
