MANIKGANJ, Dec 23, 2024 (BSS) - The ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma river resumed after 7 hours of suspension, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Patura Ghat sources said.
The Deputy General Manager (DGM) BIWTC Paturia Ghat Nasir Mahmud Chowdhury said the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was suspended at 12 am due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river bed.
Ferries -- Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin, Kapoti, Shah Poran and Bir Shrestha Motiur Rahman -- were anchored in the middle of the Padma, while ferries -- Kumilla, Bonolota, Hasna Hena and Golam Moula – were also stranded at Paturia Ghat.
BIWTC Aricha Ghat sources said the ferry movement between Aricha and Kazirhat route was suspended for six hours from 1 am to 7 am for dense fog.
Two ferries -- Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman and Dhan Siri -- remained in the middle of the Jamuna and Chitra, while Shah Ali, Khan Jahan Ali and Kishani were at Arich Ghat.
The ferry movement, however, resumed at 7 am this morning, BIWTC sources said.
