DHAKA, Dec 24, 2024 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today issued arrest warrant for former Dhaka-19 lawmaker Md Saiful Islam and four police officials in a case lodged over genocides and crimes against humanity committed during the student-led July-August mass uprising.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution. The court also set next January 26 for submitting progress report on the investigation of the case.
Refraining from disclosing the names of the four accused cops, ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said the accused were involved in gunning down six students in Ashulia, Savar, and torching their bodies to hide the evidences.
"They not only gunned down the innocents, but also kept their bodies in a police van and torched the vehicle to make it look like the mob has done this and caused the death of the people inside. That is how they carried out the barbaric crimes to avoid their responsibility," Tajul told a press briefing.
The ICT chief prosecutor further said Saiful Islam not only fired at the students, he was also involved in torching the police van with victims' bodies inside.
