DHAKA, Dec 24, 2024(BSS) - National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal services to 1,55,038 insolvent justice seekers during 2023-‘24 financial year, accoding to a report uploaded in its website recently.
During the period, the organization has realized Taka nearly 57 crore for the insolvent justice seekers as compensation.
These services have been given to the people through 64 District Legal Aid Offices, Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, toll free call centre and labourer assistance cell in Dhaka and Chattogram.
A total of 60,284 legal advices were given in 34,135 cases during the period, the report said.
Of the total, 1,278 people got legal services from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 40,500 from 64 district legal aid offices, 734 from the Employees Legal Aid Office in Dhaka and Chattogram while 17, 712 from the toll free hotline call centres.
Besides, 60,619 cases were disposed of through the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) system.
The government has been providing legal assistance to the financially insolvent and poor people through the NLASO since 2009.A senior district and sessions judge has been working here as a director.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has instructed the NLASO to appoint lawyers for the defendants in the lower courts if there is no lawyer for them.
