DHAKA, Dec 25, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is likely to be taken to London in the first week of January for better treatment.

BNP Chairperson's personal physician and party's Standing Committee Member Professor AZM Zahid Hossain told BSS that at the advice of the medical board, preparations are underway to take Begum Khaleda Zia to London in the first week of January.

However, specific date has not been finalized yet, he added.

Hossain said, "The former prime minister will go to London by an aircraft equipped with modern medical facilities as a team of doctors, some family members and private assistants will also accompany her".

The party will inform later, once the date of her London trip is finalised.

Begum Khaleda Zia will first go to London, UK, to visit her son Tarique Rahman, he said, adding after staying there for a few days, she will go to the United States for treatment of liver complications.

Khaleda Zia's doctors said all preparations have been made for the BNP Chairperson's treatment at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University Hospital in East Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

She has already obtained visas for the UK and the US. Earlier, the BNP submitted a list of 15 people, including party leaders, doctors, and nurses, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Khaleda Zia's entourage members. The UK visa process for all of them has been completed.
