DHAKA, Dec 25, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed today underscored the need for united efforts to establish history of mass uprising 2024 defying authoritarianism as an evil effort is underway to annihilate the history of the revolution.
“We fought for independence twice in 1971 and 2024. We must make a concerted effort to keep up our own history of 2024 in the way 1971 Liberation War has been established in our history,” he said while addressing as the guest of honor a discussion at Ali Ahmed Chunka Auditorium in Narayanganj this evening.
Cultural organization ‘Samageet’ organized the programme titled 'From 71 to 24: A Narrative of Cultural Transformation', said a press release here today.
Mahbub Morshed, also writer and novelist, said the country’s young generation led the mass-uprising to successful culmination by ousting the autocrat.
He said a different situation has arisen in Bangladesh now. Thousands of stories, novels, poems, movies and songs have been written on 1971 Liberation War, he added.
Mahbub Morshed underscored the need for making literary works on 2024 mass uprising.
“How much literary works have been done over 2024? How much have we accepted the mass uprising of 24 into our culture? Even after that a negative narrative is being created to establish that 1971 is being hidden by 2024,” he said.
He said the movement of 2024 didn’t appear in a single day rather it is an outcome of anti-VAT movement, anti-quota movement and road safety movement.
Mahbub Morshed said those who studied in school in 2018 are now studying at universities and they in 2018 said works were underway for state reforms.
As first step of the state reforms, they ousted Sheikh Hasina government in 2024, he said, adding, many political parties, including BNP, tried to oust Sheikh Hasina but could not do so.
At the support of several foreign forces, a situation was created to stay in power forever and “We have given up and many were bound to compromise,” he said.
In 2018, students stated that they needed a new state and they now ousted Sheikh Hasina regime, he said.
Sheikh Hasina used to undermine the people saying that those who would oppose her regime are not patriot and they are anti-liberation forces, he said.
“Bangladesh faced cultural domination. For example, if India and Kolkata accept anything, that will be considered as progressive literature. They accept those literature and history which will serve their political purpose. They promote such works,” he said.
Narayanganj Samgeet Central President Dina Tazreen presided over the meeting, and filmmaker Hasan Zafrul Bipul, Samgeet organizer Amal Akash, poet and environmental activist Arif Bablu, and rhyme-writer Ahmed Bablu were also present.
A photo-exhibition on martyred students of Government Tolaram College, Narayanganj was also arranged apart from the discussion under the arrangement of Narayanganj Shaheed Manik Rahman Pantho Nayeem Smriti Sangsad.
